We specialise in property in the Baix Maestrat, which is the northern stretch of the Costa Azahar from the border with Catalunya in the north to Peniscola and Alcocebre in the south. This includes the beautiful interior regions which begin only a few kilometres from the coast and offer the possibility of a quiet life with the advantage of being very close to the beaches and coastal towns. The area is part of the region of Castellon which is the northern province of Valencia.
The northern Costa del Azahar, or Baix Maestrat, offers everything one could wish for in terms of possible leisure activities -from golf, sailing, scuba-diving or fishing to bird watching in the nearby Ebro delta, yet is not overly developed and remains a truly Spanish area with much charm. There are numerous routes for walkers and cyclists to enjoy the countryside and of course a lot of restaurants, cafes and bars plus shopping areas in the towns.
The airport north of Castellon started operating in September 2015 and cuts transfer times to around 30 minutes. Other airports in the vicinity include the airports at Barcelona and Valencia, as well as the airport at Reus (near Tarragona), which is about a 40-60 minutes drive away. Trains to Valencia and Barcelona go from Vinaros and Benicarlo. A non stop high speed train also operated from Vinaros to Madrid. The trip to Barcelona takes around two hours (by car or train), to Valencia it is about one and a half hours. Thanks to excellent train and motorway-links Castellon province and the Costa Azahar are therefore a convenient location for day trips to Barcelona and Valencia as well as for short-trips to France or skiing-holidays, i.e. in Andorra. The combination of idyllic surroundings, gentle climate and excellent facilities, together with an efficient network of communications, make the Costa Azahar an ideal choice for year-round living and holidays alike.
Our properties are to be found in and around the coastal towns plus in the area inland from here. Usually our country villas / houses and village properties in the interior are only two to ten miles from the coast. Vinaros and Benicarlo are typical Spanish towns with fishing harbour, marina, daily market and all the main amenities needed. They are lively all year round and offer a big variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars etc. Both have town beaches as well as a lot of beaches and coves either side of town.
In the interior of the Baix Maestrat you find typically Spanish villages, for example Cervera del Maestre, Calig and Sant Jordi (San Jorge) - all a short drive from the coast.
We believe that investing in property on the Costa del Azahar makes good sense. The property market in Castellon is not only driven by foreigners but also by the Spanish buyer, yet property prices are modest compared to the areas further north and south. With the new airport of Castellon now open and new destinations likely to be added soon, there is increasing demand by foreigners in Luckily development is not likely to be on a scale as big as on other coasts and the Costa del Azahar should be able to retain its character.
