Area Information: Living in and around Peniscola
Peniscola consists of a number of different parts:
Firstly the peninsula, where you find the beautiful castle and old town, which is a major sightseeing destination for the Spanish and the foreign visitor alike and really quite impressive. Now and then one of the old houses here come up for sale. The old town is mainly a tourist attraction, although people live here all year round. But restaurants and shops partly close in winter and it becomes a lot quieter.
The actual town of Peniscola with High Street etc. is on the mainland. It is only the size of a village but it is open for business all year round with shops, bars etc. serving the residents.
Reaching up the hills you have pretty urbanisations like Cerromar and Las Atalayas with apartments and villas that offer fantastic views of the sea and the castle.
Along the seafront towards Benicarlo is a beautiful sandy beach. Here you can find beach front apartments which are very popular with holiday makers and good for letting over the summer months.
If you go south towards Alcossebre and the Sierra d'Irta you find other urbanisations, like Font Nova and Edison. In this area a new golf course is currently under construction, plus a new marina development is planned for the area. This part is quieter all year and the nature reserve invites for long walks.
More urbanisations can be found going inland from Peniscola, i.e. Mediterraneo.
Peniscola offers a real choice of different types of properties and settings, from townhouse in a castle to holiday apartment by the beach and beautiful villa with sea views.
